Thomas Convoy died from wounds on 18th May, 1915, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast, but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 2nd Essex battalion was part of 12 Brigade, 4th Division, that had been holding the line around Ploegsteert during the winter of 1914-1915 before being sent further north to Ypres in April, 1915 whn the enemy launched their first gas attacks during the Second Battle of Ypres.
